Jakarta – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) has initiated the distribution of natural gas to 2,705 Household Connections (SR) in Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta, in a phased manner.
Sheila Merlianty, the Area Head of PGN Jakarta, mentioned that the natural gas distribution in Pondok Kelapa is part of the ongoing jargas project undertaken by PGN this year, targeting a total of 303,039 Household Connections.
PGN Jakarta aims to actively contribute to the jargas project as one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN). The development of jargas in DKI Jakarta is also a step towards reducing energy import subsidies, which constitute a burden on Indonesia’s state budget.
“This includes the DKI Jakarta region, where we are continuously striving to ensure the ongoing enhancement of the jargas program,” added Sheila.
The introduction of jargas is expected to complement the facilities available to Jakarta residents, providing a more modern, practical, safe, and environmentally friendly energy option, especially amid the extensive infrastructure development in a city of Jakarta’s stature.
“PGN remains committed to supporting the government’s efforts in the success of national strategic programs, particularly in providing and distributing natural gas for households and small customers,” she stated.
The use of natural gas for households can result in cost savings of 22%-25% compared to non-subsidized energy use. Its cleaner combustion supports efforts towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
For consumers who have switched from using 3 kg gas cylinders to jargas, PGN has contributed to saving the government subsidy costs by Rp474 billion per year and conserving foreign exchange reserves used to import these gas cylinders.
In addition to DKI Jakarta, PGN’s jargas development is implemented throughout Indonesia, including the construction and provision of gas infrastructure in the National Capital of the Archipelago (IKN), with a total length of installed distribution pipes reaching 2,334 km.(BY)
